توقع تحليل حديث نشره “معهد واشنطن لسياسة الشرق الأدنى” أنه مع استعداد إدارة الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب المقبلة لتولي منصبها هناك كل الأسباب للاعتقاد بأنها ستسعى إلى اتخاذ إجراءات ملموسة لتعزيز اعترافها بالسيادة المغربية على الصحراء.
وتوقع التحليل أنه من المفترض أن تفتح الإدارة الجديدة قنصلية في مدينة الداخلة كما وعدت عام 2020 (تم إنشاء وجود قنصلي لكنه ظل افتراضيا). كما يمكن أن تفتح عودة ترامب فرصا استثمارية مربحة للشركات الأميركية.
